Liverpool is home to the oldest Chinese community in Europe and every year the city hosts a weekend of celebrations to mark Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year 2019 – The Year of the Pig – merged the city’s Chinese cultural history with a contemporary twist, bringing together popular light projections and closing with a pyrotechnic display.

As you can see, this design incorporates traditional Chinese patterns in the shape of a pig’s head. The design also features traditional Chinese writing, known as “hanzi”.
